Waterfall Hike in Maine

Little Wilson Falls is near Monson/Greenville Maine. It’s a great hike with incredible views, located on the Appalachian Trail.  Personally, I thought this was a more enjoyable hike than Gulf Hagas, because it’s way shorter, and involves a lot less work! I do love Gulf Hagas, but this one can be done in just a few hours, and it’s perfect for lunch and a swim! You can hike in a picnic and enjoy it near the falls. You can swim here, and there are a number of places you can access the water. Parking is very easy as well! If you’re bringing the family, you can acess the smaller falls area at the beginning of the trail and enjoy your day without  hauling the whole family on the hike. The hike is rooty and has a number of ups and downs, so it’s not flat. The trail in is woodsy, and you have a lot to look at while you’re headed in! Plan to spend some time at the big waterfall, but be sure to use caution, as it can be extremely dangerous if you get too close, or make a misstep! Reminder to not stand at the top of the falls, as it’s very slippery!

Directions and Parking for Little Wilson Falls

There are a few parking areas here They are not paved parking areas and there are no restrooms. We opted for the first parking area, as the road was full of potholes, thanks to Maine winters. We didn’t have very good cell service, if any out here, so keep that in mind as well!

Trail Stats for Little Wilson Falls

DISTANCE: 2.5 miles RT, however we ended up logging about 4 miles RT with the walk from the first parking lot.

ELEVATION: 416 feet, we gained about 521 feet on this hike.

TIME: 2.5 hours is recommended. We completed this hike in 1:40, but with a nice break at the waterfall, we were there for 2:15

Here are two of the first waterfalls that you come across! If you’re not up to the full hike, you can enjoy these views with very little effort. Below, you can see the trail – it goes along the water for a majority of it, and the rest is in the woods. You hike a bit on the Appalachian Trail as well to reach the large falls!

Again, a reminder to not get too close to the falls. The granite can be very slippery. And as you can see from the photo below, the fall is very steep, and you’d seriously injure yourself and/or potentially die if you fell! So please be careful.

I’m wearing my Salomon X4 here and I can’t say enough good things about them! They are super grippy and super comfortable. Want to check them out? Use this link – https://bit.ly/SalomonXUltra4DD
